CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Jacqui Wentz has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Track Athlete of the Week helping lead MIT to a thrilling team victory at last weekend’s Engineer’s Cup. Wentz earned crucial first-place points in the 1500-meter race and the 4x400m relay, as the Cardinal and Grey was able to hold off runner-up RPI, 146-135.
Wentz set a program record with her time of 4:40.10, just over a second shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark, in the 1500. The junior led a clean sweep of the top three by the Engineers, as teammates Adrienne Bolger and Katherine Eve followed her across the finish. Wentz also combined with Bolger, Jamie Simmons and Andrea Bradshaw to win the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:07.30.
The Engineers will travel to Colby College next weekend to take on the host Mules, as well as Bates and Southern Maine.
