CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second time in three weeks, Emily Hwang has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Athlete of the Week after improving upon her own MIT record in the pole vault. Hwang helped the Engineers capture first place in a meet with Colby and Bates over the weekend.
Hwang led a one-two-three sweep of the pole vault for the Cardinal and Grey, earning crucial first-place points in a closely contested meet. The senior, who has already achieved the NCAA provisional qualifying height, vaulted 12-3.50 feet on Saturday, 2.75 inches better than her previous Institute standard. With that effort Hwang now owns the highest mark in the country thus far.
In addition to Hwang's honor, teammate Portia Jones was also named the NEWMAC Track Athlete of the Week on Monday, as Tech swept the conference awards.
