CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the third consecutive week, the MIT women’s track and field team collected accolades from the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), as freshman Portia Jones was named NEWMAC Track Athlete of the Week. Jones combined with teammate Emily Hwang, who earned NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Week honors, for a sweep of the conference awards.
Jones contributed to three event wins to help lead Tech to a meet win over Colby and Bates over the weekend. The freshman achieved a provisional qualifying mark in the 400m hurdles with her time of 63.30. She was also a part of the victorious 4x100 (50.54) and 4x400m (4:06.01) relay squads.
The first-place points earned by Jones in those three events were crucial as the Cardinal and Grey withstood a strong challenge from the host Mules to take first in the meet with 161 points, just seven ahead of Colby.
