Engineers Battle Wheaton in Four-Set Win
NORTON, Mass. – On Tuesday night, MIT emerged with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23 victory over Wheaton College in a NEWMAC women's volleyball match. With the win, the Engineers improved to 19-3 on the year and 4-1 in conference play.
Senior Trinity Leonard (Mill Valley, Calif.) led a balanced attack with 10 kills, followed by nine from juniors Rachel Hunt (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Kristine Bunker (Falmouth, Mass.), and eight by freshman Ada Taylor (Durham, N.C.). Bunker and Taylor both added three blocks while Leonard totaled six digs. Senior Katie Spielbauer (Lakeview, Mich.) amassed 23 digs as junior Sharon Hao (San Jose, Calif.) notched five digs and two aces. Junior Tatiana Berger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) bolstered the defense with eight digs while freshman Lindsey Wang (Cupertino, Calif.) earned four aces. Senior Alyssa Rothman (Plainview, N.Y.) tallied 46 assists, five digs, and two blocks as junior Emma Gargus (Columbus, Ohio) picked up two aces on four serving attempts in the second set.
MIT returns to Cambridge on Thursday, Oct. 4 for a 7:00 p.m. match-up with NEWMAC rival WPI.
