CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Katie Spielbauer (Lakeview, Mich.) and freshman Ada Taylor (Durham, N.C.) represented MIT on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) New England Region Team as announced by the organization on Thursday. In addition, Taylor collected Region Freshman of the Year accolades, joining Austin Zimmerman '06 and Alex May '10 on the list of previous honorees for the Cardinal and Gray.
Earlier this week, Spielbauer became the first libero in the history of the NEWMAC to be selected Athlete of the Year while earning her second straight first-team all-conference selection. She currently stands second in the MIT recordbook for career digs with 1,966 and is seventh in career aces with 185.
Taylor received the Engineers' first Region Freshman of the Year award since 2006 and was the first rookie to collect NEWMAC accolades in four years as she was tabbed to the all-conference second team.
