Gagnier and Gebhard Selected to ECAC Volleyball All-Star Team
DANBURY, Conn. – For the first time in program history, the MIT women’s volleyball team garnered multiple Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England All-Star honors as announced by the association on Wednesday. Senior Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) both earned spots on the first team, marking their first nods from the ECAC.

Jenny Astrachan Earns Capital One Academic All-America Volleyball Honors
AUSTIN, Texas – MIT senior Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) was voted to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Volleyball First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday. A second team pick last year, she becomes the second player in program history to be a repeat honoree and is the third to secure a spot on the first team.

MIT Women’s Volleyball Garners NEWVA All-Region Accolades
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The talents of the MIT women’s volleyball team continue to be recognized with the announcement of the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) All-Region Awards on Thursday. Freshman Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, Fla.) was tabbed for Rookie of the Year accolades and earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Senior Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) was voted to the All-New England first team while sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) was placed on the second team. In addition, Gagnier and Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) were selected to participate in the NEWVA Senior Classic.

Engineers Earn Program-Record Four AVCA All-America Awards
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) was voted to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America third team while seniors Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) and Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) along with freshman Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, Fla.) represented MIT on the honorable mention list. The four selections are the most in program history and raise the team’s total to 24.

Women's Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Bowdoin at NCAA Tournament
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – In a back-and-forth five-set battle, Bowdoin College emerged with a 25-20, 20-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-13 victory over MIT in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament hosted by Williams College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Engineers closed their season with a record of 28-6.

MIT Sweeps Rivier, Advances to NCAA Volleyball Tournament Second Round
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – With a 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Rivier University on Friday afternoon, the MIT women’s volleyball team recorded the program’s 15th NCAA Tournament win and first since 2007, helping it advance to the second round of action. The Engineers (28-5) continue play at Williams College on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. when they will face either Bowdoin College or Regis College.

Engineers Rack Up AVCA All-Region Honors
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The awards continue to pour in for the MIT women’s volleyball team as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its all-region selections on Thursday. Head coach Paul Dill was tabbed for New England Coach of the Year honors while freshman Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, Fla.) was named the region’s Freshman of the Year. In addition, Davanzo secured a spot on the New England All-Region team along with seniors Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) and Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.). Fellow sophomore Tori Wuthrich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) rounded out the squad by representing the Engineers on the honorable mention list.

First-Time Honorees Collect NEWMAC Volleyball All-Conference Awards
BOSTON, Mass. – MIT seniors Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) in addition to sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) were tabbed for NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball All-Conference accolades as announced by the league on Wednesday. First-time honorees, Gagnier was voted Athlete of the Year and earned a spot on the all-conference first team along with Gebhard while Astrachan was placed on the second team.

Women's Volleyball Receives At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The MIT women’s volleyball team will be making the program’s 16th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament after receiving an at-large bid on Monday morning. The Engineers will square off with Rivier University on Friday, November 14 at Williams College. The meeting will be the first between both squads in post-season action and sixth overall since the series began in 2009. In addition to the host Ephs, the rest of the regional bracket features Sage Colleges, Babson College, Colby-Sawyer College, Bowdoin College, and Regis College.

Babson Outlasts MIT in Five-Set Thriller to Capture NEWMAC Volleyball Championship
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 2 seed Babson College fought off host and top seed MIT, 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 15-12, to capture the program’s first NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Championship on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers (26-8) automatically qualified for the upcoming NCAA Tournament to be held November 14-16. The Engineers (27-5) will learn if they will receive an at-large bid when the tournament field is announced on www.ncaa.com on Monday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m.

Engineers Sweep Wellesley, Advance to NEWMAC Volleyball Championship
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Top seed and host MIT defeated No. 5 Wellesley College, 25-13, 25-17, 25-23 in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Engineers (27-4) advanced to Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. title match and will host No. 2 Babson College, marking the first time both programs will meet in the championship. The Blue, meanwhile, saw its season conclude with a record of 17-11.

Astrachan and Wuthrich Receive Capital One Academic All-District Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fourth straight season, the MIT women’s volleyball team had multiple players earn Capital One Academic All-District honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. Senior Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) received her second selection while sophomore Tori Wuthrich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) was tabbed for the first time. The duo, which accounts for one-third of the all district honorees, will represent the Engineers on the national ballot and will contend for Academic All-America honors to be voted on later this month.

NEWMAC Announces Fall Academic All-Conference Awards
BOSTON, Mass. – A league-leading 71 athletes represented MIT on the 2014 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Fall Academic All-Conference Team. Criteria includes a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale, achieving second year academic status at his or her institution, and being a member of a varsity team for the entire season.

Gagnier Named NEWMAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week
BOSTON, Mass. – MIT senior setter Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) collected her second NEWMAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week nod this season as announced by the league on Monday. Her selection comes after helping the Engineers secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament.

MIT Sweeps Coast Guard, Clinches No. 1 Seed on Senior Day
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the strength of a team hitting percentage of .393, the MIT women’s volleyball team defeated the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 25-14, 25-13, 25-18, in a NEWMAC match on Saturday. With the win, the Engineers (26-4, 9-1 NEWMAC) clinched the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament and will host the semifinals and championship on Saturday, Nov. 8-9. Despite the setback, the Bears (20-9, 7-3 NEWMAC) secured a spot in the quarterfinals scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Engineers Take Emerson in Three Sets
BOSTON, Mass. – Following a tight third set that featured seven ties and six lead changes, the MIT women’s volleyball team emerged with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-22 victory over NEWMAC rival Emerson College on Tuesday night. Sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) led all players with 11 kills on a .346 hitting performance as the Engineers improved to 25-4 for the season and 8-1 in conference play.

Women's Volleyball Goes 1-2 at Hall of Fame Tournament
AMHERST, Mass. – Facing several of the top teams from New England, the MIT women’s volleyball team compiled a record of 1-2 at the two-day Hall of Fame Tournament co-hosted by Smith College and Amherst College this past weekend. The Engineers (24-4) fell to Williams College, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, in the opener at Smith on Friday night. The Cardinal and Gray then split its two matches at Amherst on Saturday, defeating the host Lord Jeffs, 25-18, 15-25, 25-16, 25-20, before coming up short in a 25-21, 16-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13 thriller with Middlebury College. Sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) secured a spot on the All-Tournament Team, marking her fourth award in five tournaments this season.

MIT Volleyball Defeats Babson In Four; Dill Reaches 500 Wins
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a battle between two of the top women’s volleyball teams in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), MIT took the first two sets from Babson College and went on to take a 25-20, 31-29, 17-25, 25-13 victory this evening in Rockwell Cage. The victory drew the Engineers to within a half game of the first-place Beavers and also gave head coach Paul Dill his 500th career win with the women’s volleyball program at MIT.

Tech Captures MIT Quad Tournament Title
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the third year in a row and eighth time in tournament history the MIT women’s volleyball team won the MIT Quad Tournament on Saturday. The Engineers (22-2) took top honors with a 3-0 ledger, followed by Colby College, SUNY Oneonta, and Western New England University. Sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) was named the Tournament MVP while classmate Tori Wuthrich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Astrachan Tabbed for NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Honors
BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) was tabbed for NEWMAC Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in her career after leading the MIT women’s volleyball team to a pair of key conference victories last week. In a 2-0 week for the Engineers, she tallied 39 kills, a .388 hitting percentage, and five aces.

Engineers Sweep Wheaton, 3-0
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven following a 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 victory over Wheaton College in a NEWMAC tilt on Thursday night. Senior Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) amassed 26 assists, 10 digs, five aces, and two blocks as the Engineers (19-2, 6-1 NEWMAC) generated a .376 hitting performance. The Lyons (12-10, 3-3 NEWMAC) were led by junior Kendall Jacobs (San Diego, Calif.) who posted nine kills, a .400 hitting percentage, and five digs.

Women’s Volleyball Defeats Wellesley in Five-Set Thriller
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team outlasted Wellesley College for a 25-17, 26-24, 15-25, 26-28, 15-4 victory in a NEWMAC match on Tuesday night. In the Engineers’ first regular-season win over the Blue since 2009, senior Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) led all players with 27 kills on a .338 hitting performance in addition to recording three aces for the Cardinal and Gray (18-2, 5-1 NEWMAC).

MIT Sweeps Simmons and Tufts in Volleyball Tri-Match
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team blanked local rivals Simmons College (25-20, 25-13, 25-19) and Tufts University (25-20, 26-24, 25-22) in a home tri-match on Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Tufts topped Simmons, 25-12, 25-10, 25-20.

Astrachan Has Career Night in 3-1 Win over Clark
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team emerged with a hard-fought 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC battle on Tuesday night. Senior Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) led all players with a career-high 19 kills to go along with a .375 hitting percentage as the Engineers improved to 15-2 on the year and 4-1 in conference play. For the Cougars (6-9, 1-4 NEWMAC), freshman Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the way with 13 kills, a .312 hitting effort, 17 digs, and two aces.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – In a NEWMAC women’s volleyball match on Saturday afternoon, MIT defeated host Smith College, 25-10, 25-15, 26-24. With the win, the Engineers improved to 14-2 on the year and 3-1 in conference play.

Efficient Attack Powers Women’s Volleyball in Sweep of Mount Holyoke
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Behind the strength of a team hitting percentage of .361, the MIT women’s volleyball team went on to defeat host Mount Holyoke College, 25-13, 25-9, 25-15, in NEWMAC women’s volleyball action on Tuesday night. Sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) paced the Engineers’ balanced attack with a match-high 11 kills as the squad improved to 13-2 on the year and 2-1 in conference play.

MIT Falls to Springfield, 3-1, in Volleyball
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team dropped a tough 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 decision to host Springfield College in NEWMAC action on Saturday. Senior Jenny Astrachan (Austin, Texas) led all players with 18 kills followed by 16 from sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) as the Engineers’ record lowered to 12-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

Tech Volleyball Blanks WPI, 3-0, in NEWMAC Opener
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Behind a match-high 21 digs from sophomore Tori Wuthrich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) and strong setting by senior Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) that resulted in a .450 hitting percentage, the MIT women’s volleyball team defeated WPI, 25-10, 25-14, 25-13, in the NEWMAC opener for both squads on Tuesday night. With the win, MIT improved to 12-1 on the year while WPI saw its ledger lower to 7-4.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time in three weeks the MIT women’s volleyball team received NEWMAC Athlete of the Week honors as senior Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) was chosen for the award on Monday. The accolade comes after she helped the Engineers sweep their way to the MIT Invitational crown in addition to being voted as the Tournament MVP this past weekend.

Women's Volleyball Captures MIT Invitational Crown
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team swept its way to the 2014 MIT Invitational title on Saturday afternoon, claiming its sixth championship in the 25-year history of the tournament. The Engineers (11-1) blanked Emmanuel College (28-26, 25-13, 25-15) and Connecticut College (25-17, 25-20, 25-12) on Friday before wrapping up the tournament with victories over Bates College (27-25, 25-17, 25-21) and Endicott College (25-21, 25-17, 25-17). Senior Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) was named the Tournament MVP while sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Engineers Finish Second at Vassar Invitational
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The MIT women’s volleyball team compiled a 3-1 ledger as it was the runner-up at the Vassar College Invitational this past weekend. The Engineers (7-1) fell to SUNY New Paltz in the opener (21-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-13) before outlasting the host Brewers, 23-25, 25-9, 27-29, 25-19, 15-9, in Friday’s nightcap. MIT made quick work of its opponents on Saturday as it swept the College of Mount Saint Vincent (25-9, 25-13, 25-14) and Ramapo College (25-17, 25-16, 25-19). Senior Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team.

Gebhard Named NEWMAC Volleyball Player of the Week
BOSTON, Mass. – MIT sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) was tabbed for NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday. In a 4-0 weekend that saw the Engineers win the Regis College Pride Invitational, she was voted the Tournament MVP after racking up 38 kills, a .533 hitting percentage, and three blocks.

Women’s Volleyball Captures Pride Invitational Crown
WESTON, Mass. – In its fourth straight appearance at the Regis College Pride Invitational, the MIT women’s volleyball team secured its fourth championship title on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers (4-0) opened the weekend by defeating Gordon College, 25-16, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, and then swept Eastern Nazarene College (25-17, 25-9, 25-14) and the host Pride (25-20, 25-21, 25-16). MIT concluded the tournament by blanking Gordon, 25-9, 25-12, 25-15, in the finale. Sophomore Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) was voted the Tournament MVP while freshman Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, Fla.) represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team.

Kristine Bunker '14 Represents MIT Volleyball in Costa Rica
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Last month Kristine Bunker ’14 (Falmouth, Mass.) of the MIT women’s volleyball team traveled to Costa Rica for a week of teaching and competition courtesy of USA Athletes International. She received the invitation in January following her selection as an All-America honorable mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Women's Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the eighth year in a row, the MIT women’s volleyball team qualified for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. The college ranks produced 354 programs that met the requirements, including 126 Division III teams.
