MIT to Face Framingham State in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Indianapolis, Ind. (November 7) – The MIT women's volleyball team learned it will square off with Framingham State University in the opener of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. Hosted by Tufts University, the Engineers will take the court at 3:00 p.m. for the program's 18th appearance in the tournament.

The meeting will be the first between both squads in post-season action and fourth overall since the series began in 2013. In a tri-match on October 1, MIT defeated Framingham State, 25-14, 25-20, 25-19.

The Engineers return to the national scene for the third year in a row after capturing their fifth NEWMAC Championship on Sunday. As the No. 1 seed, MIT defeated No. 4 Babson College, 25-16, 25-15, 25-27, 25-16, in the semifinals and then topped No. 3 Clark University, 25-14, 17-25, 25-16, 25-17, in the title match.

Framingham State (22-11) secured its fourth Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title in five years. The Rams swept No. 4 Bridgewater State University, 25-20, 25-14, 25-16, in the semifinals before cruising past No. 3 Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 25-18, 25-11, 25-16, in the championship.

In addition to the host Jumbos, the rest of the New England Regional bracket features Maine Maritime Academy, UMass Boston, Johnson & Wales University, Springfield College, and Endicott College.
