Abby Bertics Named NEWMAC Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week

Westwood, Mass. (September 5) – For the first time in her career MIT junior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) was selected as the NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week. In a 4-0 weekend for the Engineers that saw them sweep their way to the Morrisville State College Mustang Tournament title, she tallied 44 kills, a .468 hitting performance, five digs, and three blocks en route to All-Tournament Team honors.

Bertics opened the tournament with nine kills on 12-errorless attempts for a .750 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win over Alfred State College on Saturday. She then posted six kills and three digs in MIT's victory over Keystone College. The next day, Bertics racked up 16 kills and a .700 hitting effort against Penn State - Behrend. She wrapped up the tournament with 13 kills, a .600 hitting percentage, and two blocks versus SUNY Oswego.

The Cardinal and Gray (4-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) concludes its road trip on Wednesday, Sept. 6 with a visit to Gordon College. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
