BOSTON, Mass. – MIT women's cross country junior Elaine McVay (San Ramon, Calif.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week following her second place finish at the Purple Valley Classic this past weekend. Since the beginning of the 2013 season three weeks ago, the Engineers have been ranked third in the nation and first in New England.
At Middlebury College this Saturday, McVay ran with the top runners for the entirety of the 6k, finishing the race in second place with a time of 22:29.1, less than 10 seconds behind Kaleigh Kenny of Williams College, who came in first. McVay helped lead the Engineers to a second place finish with 43 points, narrowly behind host Middlebury with 38 and ahead of Williams College with its 46 points.
MIT will have this weekend off, returning to the cross country trail the following Saturday, Oct. 12 at the NEICAAA Championships that will be held at Franklin Park.
