Boston, Mass. (October 11) -- MIT freshman cross country runner Megan McCandless (Livermore, Calif.) has been named as the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for her performance at the 2016 NEICAAA New England Championship at Franklin Park. This marks the second NEWMAC weekly honor for McCandless.
In just her second collegiate race, McCandless earned the New England Division III Individual Championship as she placed fourth out of 234 runners and 30 seconds in front of the next D3 finisher. Finishing in a time of 17:57.42, she averaged 5:46.8 per mile as she ran the fastest-ever time by an MIT runner over the Franklin Park course.
As a team, the No. 2 ranked Engineers placed first among Division III programs and fifth overall out of 35 teams.
MIT is back in action on Saturday, October 15th as the Engineers head to Rowan University for the Border Battle in Glassboro, N.J.
