Halston Taylor will be entering his tenth campaign at the helm of both the men’s and women’s cross country programs at MIT. In nine seasons with the women, the Engineers have captured all nine NEWMAC titles, earned seven consecutive top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championship and had 11 runners collect All-America honors. 

After guiding MIT to its eighth consecutive NEWMAC title in 2014, Taylor was named the conference’s Coach of the Year for the fifth year in a row and the seventh time overall. That year, he also garnered his third United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) New England Region Coach of the Year since 2009. In 2015 MIT ended its season in third at the NCAA Championship, the sixth time in program history in which the  Engineers finished in the top-5 at nationals.

Before arriving at MIT, Taylor coached the women’s track club at South Carolina and was the boy’s track coach at both Granby and Mohawk Regional high schools in Massachusetts. Taylor also coached the boy’s and girl’s cross country teams at Mohawk Regional. A native of Columbia, S.C., Taylor is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a four-year letter winner and a 4:05-miler.

After receiving his undergraduate degree in physical education, Taylor entered UMass-Amherst to study and received his Masters in Exercise Science.
