SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Despite competing without its top seven runners, MIT finished second out of seven teams at the Mount Holyoke College Invitational. One week after finishing fourth at Pre Nationals, the Engineers' second unit looked impressive in the runner-up finish.
Sophomore Adrienne Bolger led the Cardinal and Gray by placing third in a field of 80 runners behind a solid clip of 19:57. Junior Erika Erickson finished 12th overall after finishing the 5000-meter course in a time of 20:24.
The Engineers completed the team scoring by placing five runners between 17th and 27th place. Tech's third finisher was sophomore Liz Labuz, who finished two seconds and one place ahead of Jessie Thompson. Junior Gwen Johnson crossed the line in 22nd in capping MIT's final score of 65 points.
NEWMAC rival Wellesley College won the Invitational with 23 points, although Wellesley did benefit from its full complement of harriers. The Engineers' total tied Mount Holyoke, who also finished with 65 points. Clark finished a distant fourth with 117 points, while Babson closed out the NEWMAC contingent with a fifth-place finish.
