NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The women's cross country team ran to a fourth place finish in the 10 team field on Saturday afternoon at the NEWMAC Championships held at Smith College. Freshman Elizabeth Finn continued her fantastic first year as she placed fourth of 132 harriers, just 8.30 seconds behind second place Megan Brousseau of Wheaton College. Wellesley College, winner of five NEWMAC championships since 1998, won the race with five runners finishing in the top 14. Third place finisher freshman Relena Ribbons led the Wellesley pack, as she garnered NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors. Senior standout Meg Young of Springfield College was the individual winner and the NEWMAC Runner of the Year. She completed the 5k course in 18:39.30, 24.40 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
With her fourth place finish, Elizabeth Finn earned a spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference Team. Coming in behind Finn in the top 30 for the Engineers were junior Jessie Thompson (17th), sophomore Stephanie Flavin (26th), senior Betsy Eames (27th) and freshman Christa Humbert (30th).
The Engineers next compete at the New England Division III Regional Championships in Springfield, Mass. on October 12th.
