Cambridge, Mass. (August 13) -- Jess Duff, the MIT special assistant to the director of athletics/department head, has been named as the assistant director of athletics at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
"Over these past few years, Jess has been such an integral part of our work and certainly our success – from the Visiting Committee preparation and presentation for our staff, to departmental initiatives that have improved the student experience," said MIT director of athletics, Julie Soriero. "I especially applaud and appreciated her efforts and work with our SAAC, diversity and inclusion and the Student Leadership program. Her creativity and tireless devotion to these important topics has made us all better leaders and educators."
At MIT, Duff has worked closely the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was instrumental in revamping the MIT Student-Athlete Leadership Program as she served as the co-director of that program. Heavily involved in committees across the Institute, Duff was a co-recipient of the 2018 Division of Student Life Infinite Mile Award of Building Community: Inclusion and Diversity Award. Duff is an active member of the MIT Division of Student Life Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Hazing Prevention Education Committee, as well as a member of the NCAA Common Ground Leadership Team.
"I am truly grateful for the time I spent at MIT and the connections I made in the department and across campus," said Duff. "I would like to thank Julie Soriero for her support and guidance over the last two years. While I am sad to leave such a great community, I am looking forward to my next step at Bates College."
In her role at Bates, Duff will oversee student-athlete services and internal operations for the department.
