THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 17, Johnson & Wales University 12

- Records: MIT (1-1); Johnson & Wales (0-3)

- Location: Providence, R.I. (Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex)

- The Lead: A 7-2 run that spanned the majority of the second half helped the MIT women's lacrosse team capture a 17-12 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon. First-year Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied four goals, one assist, three groundballs, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers while classmate Abigail Kolyer (Manhasset, N.Y.) amassed 17 saves for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Johnson & Wales opened the game with three straight goals but MIT replied with three of its own as back-to-back strikes from sophomore Shannon Wing (Westford, Mass.) tied the game at the 19:54 mark. The game remained scoreless until a pair of goals from the Wildcats midway through the half. The Engineers replied with a 6-1 run which put them in front, 9-6 with 3:33 remaining. JWU quickly cut its deficit to one, however, Wing buried a feed from first-year Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) to give MIT a 10-8 edge at halftime.

- The Engineers carried the momentum into the second stanza as they outscored the Wildcats, 7-2, during a span of 21:05 with Rabenold providing MIT's final two markers. JWU closed out the game with a pair of free-position goals for a 17-12 final score.
