Men's Heavyweight Crew Defends Donahue Cup Title

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Men's Heavyweight Crew team traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday to compete in the Donahue Cup.  For the second time in two years, and third time since 2010, the Engineers came away victorious.

Competing on Lake Quinsigamond against Williams, WPI and the University of Rochester the Heavyweight V8 took to the Lake in chilly conditions but perfect water.  In what was an extremely tightly contested race throughout, the Engineers were able to move out to an early lead of almost a length.   Williams pushed back in the third 500 to get even. Both teams sprinted well in the final 500 but MIT was able to cross the line four tenths ahead of Williams in a 5:54.9, narrowly defeating Williams who finished in 5:55.3.  WPI finished third in 6:03.8.

Williams took home the 2V8 race in a final time of 6:22.1.  WPI and MIT had a very intense battle for second in which WPI narrowly crossed the finish line ahead of the Engineers, finishing in 6:27.7 to MIT's 6:28.1

The Engineers will return to the Charles River next Saturday, April 19 when they host the Compton Cup.
