CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A strong effort from MIT's single and double units assisted the Engineers to their third consecutive win of the spring season as they defeated Colby-Sawyer College, 8-1 on Wednesday evening in the J.B. Carr Indoor Tennis Facility. With the win, the Cardinal and Gray improve to 3-0, while the Chargers dip to 2-3.
Junior Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) and sophomore Kenny Gea (Irvine, Calif.) helped MIT earn their initial win, defeating sophomore Cass McCann (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and freshman Rico Bailey (Mattapan, Mass.) in the first doubles by a score of 8-4. Junior Dennis Garcia (Corpus Christi, Texas) and freshman Bryan Lilley (Edmond, Okla.) also won in doubles play, defeating sophomore Ryan Sawyer (Edgartown, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Peloquin (Greenville, R.I.) by a score of 8-2. Garcia also competed in singles play, downing senior Sergio Spassof (Pallini, Greece), 6-4, 6-3.
Senior Jeffrey Sperling (Los Angles, Calif.) and sophomore Moseley Andrews (Ross, Calif.) helped Tech sweep the doubles competition with an 8-2 win over Spassof and senior Clay Allen (Massena, N.Y.). Senior Eugene Oh (Alpharetta, Ga.), junior Jeffrey Bu (Arcadia, Calif.) and sophomores Kristopher Bronner (Brookline, Mass.) and Avi Walden (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) each won their individual single matches.
Next up, MIT will return to the court on Friday when they compete against Vassar College at 4:00 p.m.
