Brendan Mulvey joined MIT as the Richard J. Resch, ’61 Freshman Lightweight Coach in the fall of 2018. He is familiar with the Charles River, working at the Head of the Charles Regatta and coaching for Boston College prior to arriving at MIT.

Mulvey comes to MIT after holding the position of Director of Operations at the Head of the Charles Regatta for the past three years. He had worked with the Regatta since 2010, moving from intern and operations assistant, before holding the Director of Operations position.

Mulvey was a coach with the Boston College men’s rowing team from 2009-16. He began his stint as the novice/freshmen coach, holding that position for four seasons. During his tenure, Mulvey was the 2011 ACRA Northeast Coach of the Year and he guided the Novice 8 to the program’s first New England Rowing Championship title the same season. In 2013, Mulvey assumed head coaching duties for three seasons. He was named the 2014 ACRA Northeast Coach of the Year and the team captured the New England Rowing Championship Points Trophy in 2014 and 2015.

A member of the U.S. national team, Mulvey was a member of the Lightweight 8+ that competed in the 2013 World Rowing Championship in Chungju, South Korea.

A 2009 graduate of Marist College, Mulvey was a team captain his senior year before receiving his bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing. He also earned an advanced certificate in rowing leadership from the Institute for Rowing Leadership in 2012.
