Women's Lacrosse Defeats Mount Holyoke, 20-10, on Senior Day

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A seven-goal burst that spanned just over nine minutes lifted the MIT women's lacrosse team to a 20-10 victory over Mount Holyoke College in NEWMAC women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. Senior Kira Schott (New Canaan, Conn.) compiled five goals, one assist, nine draw controls and three groundballs for the Engineers (9-3, 4-1 NEWMAC) while junior Charlotte Wagner (West Chester, Pa.) paced the Lyons (2-9, 1-5 NEWMAC) with six goals.

Wagner provided the first two goals of the game but off the ensuing draw MIT freshman Cecilia McCormick (Islip, N.Y.) found the back of the net at the 24:45 mark. Less than a minute later Mount Holyoke replied with a man-up strike from sophomore Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass.) to claim a 3-1 lead. The Engineers countered with back-to-back goals by sophomore Katie Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.), kicking off a 9-0 run. Wagner connected on a pass from senior Julia Bell (Longmeadow, Mass.), ending the Lyons' scoring drought with 8:04 left. Notarangelo completed the hat trick courtesy of a feed from senior Kristyn Berretta (San Diego, Calif.) but a blast by Bell narrowed the gap to 11-5 heading into halftime.

The Cardinal and Gray controlled the action during the first 20 minutes of the second stanza as it outscored the visitors, 8-2. Despite the deficit, Mount Holyoke continued to attack as it put together a 3-1 spurt down the stretch on the strength of two Wagner goals.

Levy racked up six goals, including four during the game-changing run, while Notarangelo generated three goals, one assist, seven groundballs, and three draw controls. Berretta finished with two assists as McCormick posted two goals. Sophomore Ashley Masucci (Windham, N.H.) collected four groundballs while classmate Allison Kaslow (Lithia, Fla.) had three caused turnovers. In net, sophomore Eva Boal (Princeton Junction, N.Y.) made six saves.

Bell totaled two goals, one assist, and three draw controls as senior Catherine Ryan (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned two assists. Freshman Haley Subock (Northampton, Mass.) notched five draw controls while sophomore Kaitlin Braz (Tolland, Conn.), junior Alyssa Tabrinsky (Rancho Palos Verdies, Calif.), and senior Nicole Perkins (Mashpee, Mass.) each picked up three groundballs. Junior goalie Isa Rodriguez (Columbus, Ohio) collected 10 saves through 41 minutes of play as sophomore Clarissa Leight (Austin, Texas) turned away three shots in relief.

Both squads take on non-conference foes in their next outings. MIT will host the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday, April 19 while Mount Holyoke will have a home game against Amherst College the following day.
