CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the third straight week, MIT senior pitcher Alexandra Marshall (Glen Head, N.Y.) was named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week, while sophomore Amanda Lee (Saratoga, Calif.) was tabbed as the league's Co-Softball Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career.
Marshall continued her dominance inside the circle this week. In five games (three starts), Marshall went 3-0 (8-4 overall this season) allowing just one run, 11 hits and compiling 18 strikeouts. Her ERA this week was 0.30 over her 23 innings thrown. On top of her three outstanding starts, Marshall registered two saves, one in a 2-1 win over regionally ranked Williams College and the other coming in a 2-0 victory over NEWMAC foe Babson College.
In a 6-0 week, Lee batted .350/.350/.550 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with seven hits, five runs, one double and a home run. Her homer came as a game winner in the first of two contests against Babson. With the score even at 1-1 in the sixth, Lee lifted her first home run of the season and second of her career to put the Engineers ahead for good. In a doubleheader sweep of Smith College on Saturday, Lee went a combined 5-for-8 with three runs scored and three RBI. In the field, Lee was also perfect on 21 chances, accumulating 6 put outs and 15 assists.
