Tzeng Named as NEWMAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week

Boston, Mass. (September 12) -- MIT junior captain Dora Tzeng (Fremont, Calif.) has been named as the NEWMAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week for her performance in a 2-0 week for the No. 17 ranked Engineers.

In a hard-fought 6-3 victory over No. 31 ranked Wellesley on Saturday, Tzeng took the No. 1 singles match by finals of 7-6, 7-6 as MIT earned four singles points. Tzeng also teamed up with junior captain Sonya Das (Arden Hills, Minn.) at No. 1 doubles as the duo took a dominant 8-1 final to help the Engineers take a 2-1 edge after doubles play.

Tzeng ended the weekend with another straight-set victory at No. 1 singles as she defeated Springfield by a 6-2, 6-3 margin in a 9-0 victory over the Pride. She was also part of the No. 1 doubles victory in an 8-1 final.

MIT is back in action on Saturday, September 17th as the Engineers host Mount Holyoke for a Noon start in Cambridge.
