Women's Tennis Welcomes Five Newcomers for the 2019-2020 Season
July 23, 2019The MIT women’s tennis program will welcome five newcomers to the team for the 2019-20 season, as announced by head coach Carol Matsuzaki. Matsuzaki enters her 22nd season at MIT and is a 10-time NEWMAC Coach of the Year. -
Women's Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team Honors for 17th Straight Year; Five Named as ITA Scholar-Athletes
July 22, 2019he MIT women’s tennis team has earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team honors, along with five individuals being named as ITA Scholar-Athletes. This marks the 17th consecutive season that the Engineers have been recognized with All-Academic Team accolades. -
No. 19 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 4 Wesleyan, 5-1, in NCAA Elite Eight
May 20, 2019The nationally-ranked No. 19 MIT women’s tennis team saw its season come to an end following a 5-1 loss to No. 4 Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championship on Monday. Appearing in the Elite Eight for the second year in a row and third time overall, the Engineers finished the year with an 18-4 record. -
Women's Tennis Earns Second Straight NCAA Elite Eight Berth
May 12, 2019For the second straight season, the MIT women’s tennis team is heading to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight after a thrilling 5-3 win over No. 7 Bowdoin College on Sunday afternoon. The Engineers held a 3-0 lead following doubles before holding off a furious Bowdoin rally for the victory. -
No. 19 Women's Tennis Advances to Second Straight NCAA Regional Final
May 11, 2019In the second all-time meeting between the two schools, No. 19 ranked MIT advanced to the program’s second-straight NCAA Regional Final with a 5-0 win over New Paltz in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Engineers are now 11-8 all-time in NCAA action, while New Paltz ends the season at 18-2 overall. -
Tabunshchyk, Matsuzaki Lead NEWMAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Performers
May 09, 2019Six members of the MIT women’s tennis team have been named as New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference performers, as voted by the league’s nine head coaches. In addition, first-year Viktoriya Tabunshchyk (Ancaster, Canada) was named as the Rookie of the Year and head coach Carol Matsuzaki earned Coach of the Year honors for the fifth straight season and 10th time overall. -
No. 19 Women's Tennis Earns First-Round Bye in NCAA Tournament
May 06, 2019The No. 19 ranked MIT women’s tennis team has earned an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship and a first-round bye in the regional that will take place at Bowdoin College. The Engineers will take on the winner of SUNY New Paltz and Husson in the second round on Saturday, May 11th. -
MIT Defeats Babson, 5-0, to Capture Fourth Straight NEWMAC Women’s Tennis Championship
May 04, 2019On Saturday afternoon, the nationally-ranked No. 19 and top-seeded MIT women's tennis team claimed the program's fourth straight and 10th overall NEWMAC Championship with a 5-0 victory over No. 2 seeded Babson College. The Engineers earned the league's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament. In addition, sophomore Megan Guenther (Willowbrook, Ill.) was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player for her performance this past week. -
Strong Start Leads Top-Seeded Women's Tennis Past Wheaton in NEWMAC Semifinals
April 30, 2019Sophomore Marina Zhang (Garnet Valley, Pa.) clinched the final point for No. 1 seeded MIT as the No. 19 ranked Engineers defeated fifth-seeded Wheaton College by a 5-0 final to advance to the 2019 NEWMAC Championship. The Engineers are now 35-14 all-time vs. the Lyons and 5-0 in the postseason. -
No. 19 Women's Tennis Rallies From 4-0 Deficit, Defeats No. 9 Tufts by 5-4 Final
April 26, 2019Rallying from a 4-0 deficit, the No. 19 MIT women’s tennis team took the final five singles matches to defeat No. 9 Tufts University by a 5-4 margin in non-conference action on Friday after in the regular-season finale for the Engineers. The match was a rematch of the 2018 NCAA Regional Final. -
No. 16 Women's Tennis Claims Seventh-Straight NEWMAC Regular-Season Title
April 23, 2019After rallying to take a 2-1 lead in doubles play, No. 16 MIT dominated Babson College in singles play as the Engineers pulled away for the 8-1 victory in the NEWMAC regular-season finale. The win gives MIT its seventh-straight NEWMAC regular-season championship and the top seed in next week’s NEWMAC Tournament. -

April 14, 2019Rallying from a 2-1 deficit after doubles action, the No. 16 ranked MIT women’s tennis team came away with a 7-2 win over Wellesley College on Sunday as the Engineers swept singles and earned their 54th straight NEWMAC regular-season victory dating back to 2011-12. The win is also the 10th straight this season as MIT and Babson remain as the lone teams unbeaten in conference play. -

March 03, 2019Junior captain Lara Rakocevic (Portland, Ore.) secured a three-set victory at No. 3 singles to lead the No. 9 MIT women’s tennis team to a 5-4 win over No. 12 Sewanee on the final day of the ITA Division III Women’s Indoor Team Championship. The overall match was square at 4-4 before Rakocevic took a convincing 6-2 victory in the final set. -
