CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT women's track and field junior Jackie Vahey (Winchester, Mass.) has been named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Field Athlete of the week for her performance at the Yale Invitational on Saturday. This is the second time in as many weeks in which Vahey took home the weekly conference accolade.
In three throwing events this weekend, Vahey had strong performances in each of them highlighted by a new personal record in the hammer throw (168-feet, 3-inches - 51.28m) for second place in the event. The junior went on to claim the crown in the discus throw with a best distance of 136-feet, 1-inch (41.48m) and fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 36-feet, 5.25-inches (11.12m).
MIT is back in action this weekend as some Engineers will travel to Princeton University for the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday, April 8 and others will remain at home for at tri-meet with Bates College, Tufts University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a 10:00 a.m. start on Saturday, April 9.
