    The MIT women’s volleyball team closed out the New England Challenge by sweeping Williams College (25-16, 25-19, 25-10) before falling to No. 13 Tufts University (18-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-19) on Saturday. Senior Alexis Groark (Elwood, N.Y.) represented the Engineers on the All-Tournament Team while the program recorded its 27th consecutive 20-win season.

    The MIT women’s volleyball team opened the first day of the New England Challenge by defeating Middlebury College, 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10, on Friday. Senior Alexis Groark (Elwood, N.Y.) powered the Engineers with a career-high 24 kills while hitting .308 on the night.
  • Women’s Volleyball Battles Clark for a 3-0 Victory

    The MIT women’s volleyball team generated late runs during the first and third sets to help it defeat Clark University, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18, in NEWMAC action on Tuesday night. First-year Alyssa Unell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tallied 13 kills, a .435 hitting performance, four aces, and four blocks for the Engineers.

    An efficient hitting performance, which improved throughout the match, helped the MIT women’s volleyball team defeat Emmanuel College, 25-17, 25-10, 25-7, in non-conference action on Thursday night. The Engineers generated a .540 hitting percentage, including a .643 performance in the third set.

    Trailing two sets to one, the MIT women’s volleyball team battled back to defeat the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 25-22, 20-25, 28-30, 25-17, 15-8, in NEWMAC action on Saturday. Senior Alexis Groark (Elwood, N.Y.) led all players with a career-high 23 kills while hitting .327 as classmate Madison Lee (Hillsborough, Calif.) generated a career-best and match-high 27 digs.
  • No. 5 Johnson & Wales Defeats Women’s Volleyball, 3-0

    Facing its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the MIT women’s volleyball team fell to No. 5 Johnson & Wales, 26-24, 25-21, 25-18, on Tuesday night. Senior Alexis Groark (Elwood, N.Y.) and junior Emily Condon (Orange, Calif.) paced the Engineers’ balanced attack with eight kills while also posting two blocks.

Junior Andie Maloney (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) represented the Engineers on the All-Tournament Team.

    The MIT women’s volleyball team swept the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), 25-18, 25-13, 25-22, and host Gordon College, 25-11, 25-16, 25-11, to capture the Gordon Invitational title on Saturday. This was the ninth time in 14 appearances at the tournament the Engineers came away with a first-place finish.
  • Women’s Volleyball Opens Season with Sweep of SUNY Potsdam at Gordon Invitational

    Playing in the Gordon College Invitational for the first time since 2010, the MIT women’s volleyball team opened up its season by sweeping SUNY Potsdam, 25-10, 25-18, 25-20, on Friday night. Senior Alexis Groark (Elwood, N.Y.) powered the Engineers with a match-high 11 kills to go along with a .556 hitting performance.

  • Women’s Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award, Named to Academic Honor Roll

    The MIT women's volleyball team collected its 13th consecutive American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award as announced by the organization last month. In addition, the Engineers earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll by virtue of having one of the top 33 GPAs among Division III women’s programs. The college ranks produced 505 programs that met the requirements, including 175 Division III teams.
  • Abby Bertics Named 2018-19 Google Cloud Division III Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year

    Abby Bertics ’19, formerly of MIT’s women’s volleyball team, was named the 2018-19 Google Cloud Division III Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday. She joins Maryann Gong ’17, a two-time recipient for cross country/track and field, and Brad Gray ’98 of the football team on the Engineers’ list of all-time honorees. Bertics is also the second Division III women’s volleyball student-athlete to earn this award.
