Coming off a very successful training trip, the MIT sailing team won the Seahawk Women's Team Race over the weekend, finishing first out of eleven teams and securing an out-of-conference win. The Engineers went 14-4 over the two-day race, posting a 7-3 record in round one, a 4-1 record in the Gold 6 and finished with a perfect 3-0 record in the Final 4. MIT was skippered by senior Dana Haig (Beach Haven, N.J.), first-year Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and senior Kaila Pfrang Suffolk, N.Y.) while the crew was comprised of first-year Shayne Bersin (Port Washington, N.Y.), senior Veronika Silkin (Johnston, Iowa), first-year Mercedes Escandon (Brick, N.Y.) and senior Maile Jim (Honolulu, Hawaii).
