Junior Helen Sakharova captured fifth place in epee at the NCAA Fencing Northeast Regional Championship on Sunday, resulting in the highest Division III performance for the weapon for the second year in a row. That was the best epee finish at the Regional Championship for the MIT Fencing program since 2003, and secured Sakharova her second straight qualification for the NCAA Championships on March 22-25. She will be the only Division III epee competitor out of the 24 person field.
