- The Lead: In the season-opening Purple Valley Classic, the No. 6 ranked MIT women's cross country team finished second out of 12 teams with 64 points. Overall, the Engineers defeated three nationally-ranked teams with Tufts (No. 11), Middlebury (No. 13) and WPI (No. 25).

- Senior All-American
Izzi Gengaro (Boonton Township, N.J.) led the Engineers with a sixth-place finish in a time of 23:34.8, while sophomore
Olivia Rosenstein (Urbana, Ill.) was right behind her in seventh as she crossed in 23:38.8.

- Sophomore
Sarah Bentley (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) finished in 12th in her first collegiate race in 24:08.1, followed by sophomore
Gillian Roeder (Delmar, N.Y.) in 18th at 24:23 and junior
Einat Gavish (Newton, Mass.) in 21st to round out the scoring runners with a time of 24:47.6.

Anna Haddad (Tacoma, Wash.) finished 26th in a time of 24:57.1, along with first-year
Olivia Stoner (Haddonfield, N.J.) in 37th at 25:30.1 to cap off the top seven MIT runners.

- In addition, sophomore
Lily Janjigian (Rye Brooke, N.Y.) finished 43rd in 25:36.6, while sophomore
Archana Mohandas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was 62nd at 26:16.9 and
Alana Chandler finished in 66th place with a time of 26:26.4.

- MIT returns to action on Saturday, October 2nd as the Engineers travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic. The course at Tom Sawyer Park will host the NCAA Division III National Championship on November 20th.
