Water Polo Earns Top Seed for CWPA Division III Eastern Championship

Bridgeport, Pa. (October 20) – The MIT water polo team, ranked fourth in the most recent Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) National Poll, has earned the top seed for this weekend's Division III Eastern Championships which will be hosted by Penn St. Behrend in Erie, Pa. from October 22-23.
 
The field is made up of teams from multiple conferences, and the championship consists of Division III No. 4 MIT, No. 9 Johns Hopkins, Austin College, Augustana, Connecticut College, Penn St. Behrend, and Washington & Jefferson College.
 
Seeding was selected based on a vote of the coaches with MIT, Johns Hopkins, Augustana, Austin, Washington & Jefferson, Conn. College and Penn St. Behrend hold the No. 1-to-7 spots, respectively.
 
The two semifinalists will qualify for the USA Water Polo Division III Championship which will be held on the East Coast for the first time from December 2-4.
 
In the history of the CWPA Division III Championship, MIT holds nine titles while defending champion Johns Hopkins holds 19 titles. The two rivals are the only active Division III programs to hold a DIII Eastern title.
 
Against the field this season, MIT has defeated Austin 9-4, Conn College, 12-4, and Penn St. Behrend, 15-2.
