THE BASICS:
- Location: Attleboro, Mass. (Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park)
- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon, the No. 6 ranked MIT women's cross country team claimed the program's 15th straight NEWMAC Championship with a 32-point victory over runner-up Smith College. The Engineers finished with a total of 30 points, en route to the team's 17th league title overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior
Gillian Roeder (Delmar, N.Y.) captured the individual title with a time of 21:53.4 to defeat
Lauren Selkin of Mount Holyoke by a 3.3-second margin. She is the 12th MIT women's student-athlete to earn NEWMAC Athlete of the Year honors and first since
Izzi Gengaro in 2019.
- First-year
Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) was the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year as she finished fourth overall in a time of 22:15.1. She is the 13th MIT runner to be named as the league's Rookie of the Year and first since
Einat Gavish (Newton, Mass.) in 2018.
- Senior
Anna Haddad (Tacoma, Wash.) crossed in sixth with a time of 22:21.2, followed by sophomore
Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) in eighth at 22:33 and Gavish in 11th with a time of 22:38.9.
- The Engineers swept places 11-15 with Gavish, followed by junior
Archana Mohandas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) in 12th place in a time of 22:40.3. Junior
Olivia Rosenstein (Urbana, Ill.) was 13th in 22:42.9, along with senior
Kirsi Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) in 14th at 22:53.9 and senior
Anna Chau (Salem, Ore.) in 15th in a time of 23:02.9. The Engineers finished the meet with nine All-Conference performers.
- First-year
Rujuta Sane (Chandler, Ariz.) crossed in a time of 23:42.9 to finish 28th, followed by sophomore
Olivia Stoner (Haddonfield, N.J.) in 51st place at 24:54. First-year
Tessa Everett (Niwot, Colo.) finished 57th in 25:08.9, with first-year
Stella Gassman (Larchmont, N.Y.) rounding out the MIT runners in 74th place in a time of 25:47.7.
UP NEXT:
- MIT returns to action on Saturday, November 12th as the team travels to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine for the NCAA New England Regional Championship. The women's race is set to begin at 11 a.m.
