- The Lead: For the seventh time in program history and first time since 2019, the No. 7 ranked MIT women's cross country team captured the NCAA New England Regional Championship with a total of 36 points on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers earn an automatic berth to next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championship
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- MIT took the regional championship with a total of 36 points to defeat runner-up Bates College by an 18-point margin.
- Senior
Anna Haddad (Tacoma, Wash.) was the top finisher for MIT as she finished second with a time of 22:25 over the six-kilometer course. Junior
Gillian Roeder (Delmar, N.Y.) was next up for the Engineers in fourth at 22:29.9, followed by first-year
Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) in sixth place in a time of 22:34.4. Sophomore
Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) crossed in 11th place at 22:47.9 and junior
Archana Mohandas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was the final MIT scoring runner in 13th place in 22:50.1.
- Senior
Kirsi Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) finished 16th with a time of 23:04.7 and she was followed immediately by first-year
Lexi Fernandez (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) in 17th in 23:05.5.
- As a team, all seven MIT runners earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors.
UP NEXT:
- MIT wraps up the season on Saturday, November 19th as the Engineers travel to Lansing, Michigan for the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championship. The women's race begins at 11 a.m. at the Forest Akers East Golf Course.
