Women's Swimming and Diving Concludes Regular Season on a Strong Note at the BU Winter Invite

THE BASICS:
 
- Location: Boston, Mass. (Competition Pool)
 
- The Lead: The No. 9 MIT women's swimming and diving team competed in its last regular-season meet of the year as members of the team put together strong performances at the Boston University Winter Invitational over the weekend.
 
 
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
 
 500-YARD FREESTYLE
 
- Katie Sapozhnikov (Ambler, Pa.) registered a sixth-place finish with a time of 5:10.98 while first-year Chloe Swanson (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished in eighth with a time of 5:11.81.
 
 
200-YARD IM
 
- MIT grabbed the eighth and ninth-place finishes with sophomore Sasha Konovalenko (Midland, Mich.) in eighth (2:10.54) and first-year Jolene Zhang (Holly Springs, N.C) in ninth (2:10.86).
 
 
50-YARD FREE
 
- Sophomore Evelyn Peters (Fort Mill, S.C.) grabbed a fifth-place finish with a time of 24.37.
 
 
400-YARD FREESTYLE
 
- Konovalenko, first-year Vivian Shao (Pittsburgh, Pa.), sophomore Katherine Kostecki (St. Louis, Mo.), and sophomore Miranda Cai (Cranbury, N.J.) won the event with a time of 3:35.39.
 
- Swanson, Sapozhnikov, sophomore Allison Brattley (Fleetwood, Pa.), and sophomore Aria Eppinger (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished in third with a mark of 3:40.13.  
 
 
100-YARD BUTTERFLY
 
- Peters grabbed a third-place finish with a time of 57.17.

 
100-YARD BREASTSTROKE
 
- Zhang finished fourth with a mark of 1:06.92.
 
- Brattley grabbed ninth with a time of 1:08.85.
 
 
100-YARD BACKSTROKE
- Sophomore Helen Chen (Cary, N.C.) finished in sixth with a time of 59.69.
 
 
200-YARD MEDLEY RELAY
 
- MIT finished 4-6 in the event led by the team of Konovalenko, Zhang, senior Chelsea Zhang (Sherborn, Mass.), and first-year Vivian Shao (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (1:50.28) followed by the team of Kostecki, Brattley, Sapozhnikov, and Swanson (1:50.72).


- The team of Chen, Cai, Peters, and junior Emily Wang (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished in sixth with a time of 1:53.03.
 

1650-YARD FREESTYLE
 
- Sophomore Aria Eppinger (Pittsburgh, Pa.) grabbed a fifth-place finish with her time of 18:4703.
 
 
200-YARD BACKSTROKE
 
- Kostecki finished in third with a time of 2:06.72 followed by Chen in fifth (2:10.50) and Konovalenko in sixth (2:10.87).
 

200-YARD BUTTERFLY
 
- Sapozhnikov finished in fourth (2:08.58) followed by Swanson in fifth (2:10.71) and C. Zhang in eighth (2:14.03).
 

400-YARD MEDLEY RELAY
 
- The Engineers grabbed the top-two spots led by the team of Kostecki, J. Zhang, Peters, and Chen (3:59.18) and followed by Konovalenko, Brattley, E. Wang, and Shao (4:09.09).
 
 
UP NEXT:
 
- The Engineers will now gear up for the NEWMAC Championships which begin on Thursday, February 17 at 6 p.m. at the Zesiger Center Pool.
