The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to UVC foe Nazareth on Saturday afternoon at Kidera Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-
Set 1: The Engineers scored eight of ten points to pull ahead 12-7. The run featured three kills from junior
Nicholas Gustafson (San Diego, Calif.). The Golden Flyers eventually pulled even, using a 4-0 run to tie the match at 15. The set featured 10 ties as neither team was able to get out too much of a lead, but the home team scored three of the set's final four points to take a 25-22 win.
Â
-
Set 2: Nazareth raced to a 7-1 lead, but MIT slowly chipped away and a 4-0 run punctuated by a Gustafson ace put the Engineers in the lead, 18-17. A kill from junior
Jack Yurkanin (New Lenox, Ill.) made is a 22-21 Nazareth lead and forced the home team to take a timeout. Out of the break, the Golden Flyers scored the next three points to win the set, 25-21.
Â
-
Set 3: A 5-0 Nazareth run made it a 14-6 lead for the home team as the Golden Flyers held the lead for the entire set, not allowing the Engineers to chip much into the lead as they won the final set, 25-19.
