- The Lead: The MIT softball team concluded the NFCA Classic with games against Randolph-Macon and No. 2 and the defending National Champions Virginia Wesleyan. First-year Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One vs. Randolph Macon

- The two teams were scoreless through the first three innings before Randolph Macon broke through with a sacrifice fly. The Yellow Jackets then got runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead.

- MIT rallied in its last at-bats as first-year Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a double from sophomore Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Pa.). RMC retired the next two Engineers out to end the rally and take the 3-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two vs. Virginia Wesleyan

- The defending National Champions got on the board in the bottom of the first and that run proved to be the difference as neither team was able to get another runner across home plate for the remainder of the game.

- MIT put two runners on in the top of the seventh as Pendowski and sophomore Rylie Spiegel (Bradenton, Fla.) worked walks, but the Engineers were unable to plate the tying run as the Marlins closed out the 1-0 win.

UP NEXT:

- The Engineers will take some time off before heading to Florida for their Spring Break Trip. MIT opens play in Clermont, Fla. on Sunday, March 20 with games against Luther (1:30 p.m.) and Trinity (4 p.m.).
