The Lead: The MIT softball team celebrated Senior Day with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers pitching staff allowed no runs and surrendered just three total hits in the two games. Before the game, MIT honored its three graduating seniors,
Anya Chase,
Deborah Torres, and
Claire Wichman.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One
- First-year
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) stole third and then took home on an error to give MIT a quick 1-0 lead. Senior
Anya Chase (Wells, Maine) hit her first collegiate homer in the second to put MIT up 4-0Â and a two-RBI knock from first-year
Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) put MIT up six after just two innings.

- MIT secured the win in the sixth with Chase knocking in her fourth run of the day on a double and then scoring on an error to give MIT a game one win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Â Chase was excellent at the plate and in the circle for MIT as she led the team with four RBI and tallied two hits. In the circle, she grabbed her 12th win as she gave up just two hits over six innings with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Rylie Spiegel (Bradenton, Fla.), sophomore
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), and senior
Claire Wichman (Omaha, Neb.) all tallied two hits in the game for MIT.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two
- The Engineers took a 3-0 lead in the third on a two-RBI single by first-year
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) followed by an Adkison single to left to plate Bivin.

Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) made it a 4-0 game with an RBI single in the fourth and socred on a Spiegel double.

- Bivin tallied her third RBI of the day as her single scored junior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) and sophomore
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Pa.) and O'Connor won the game for MIT with her single to left to score Wichman.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- O'Connor finished the day with two hits at the plate while allowing just one in the circle. She knocked in two runs to help her notch her ninth win on the season. She finished with four strikeouts and no walks.

- Spiegel, Pendowski, and Bivin all recorded two hits for MIT in the game and Bivin led the team with four RBI.
UP NEXT:
- The Engineers earned the three seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and will take on six seed Wheaton. The game will be played at second-seed WPI on Wednesday, May 4th at 2:30 p.m.Â
