Men's Soccer Falls to Coast Guard, 4-1, in NEWMAC Quarterfinals

- The Lead: The MIT men's soccer season came to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the Engineers fell to Coast Guard, 4-1, in the NEWMAC quarterfinals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Charles Fish sent a free kick into the front of the box where Jude Sargent headed the ball into the net at 6:48 for his third goal of the season.
 
- Graduate student Hendrik Mayer (Montville, N.J.) had a scoring chance off a free kick at 31:41, but his shot went wide.
 
- The Bears increased their lead to 4-0 with three second-half goals. Michael O'Brien opened the scoring in the 47th minute, and Andres Villasana and Sargent contributed scores for Coast Guard.
 
- With under ten minutes remaining, MIT got on the board with a free kick just outside the box by first-year Dilin Meloni (Needham, Mass.).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Engineers held a 14-8 advantage in shots, but the Bears held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
 
- First-year Hernando Ardila (Miramar, Fla.) made two saves and fell to 3-3-0.
 
- Meloni recorded his third score of the year.
