Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) became the 21st All-American in program history, leading the No. 7 ranked MIT women's cross country team to an 11th place finish and a team score of 354 points at the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sanderson earned All-American honors for the first time in her collegiate cross country career with a 34th place finish in a time of 21:45 over the 6,000-meter course to finish as the first Engineer across the line.
- Sophomore
Lexi Fernandez (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) traversed the course in 22:03 to finish 48th overall. Junior
Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) also placed in the top 100 with a time of 22:21 to rank 83rd.
- First-year
Heather Jensen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) finished 127th in a time of 22:43, while classmate
Olivia Girand (New York, N.Y.) was 186th in a time of 23:02 to complete the Engineers' top-five scoring runners.
- Sophomore
Rujuta Sane (Chandler, Ariz.) finished in a time of 23:14 for 220th place, while classmate
Erin Hovendon (Hendersonville, N.C.) was 238th with a time of 23:28.
- Saturday's meet marked MIT's 15th straight NCAA Division III National Championship team appearance.
- Carleton won the team title with 151 points as the top four teams were separated by seven points. NYU and University of Chicago rounded out the top three.
