- The Lead: Kicking of the 2023-24 campaign, the MIT squash team walked away with a sweep of both Boston College and Boston University starting things off with a bang with a 9-0 sweep of the Terriers before picking up a 9-0 victory against Boston College on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Boston University:
- The Engineers did not drop a single game during the event.
- Sophomore Hyun Su Price (Philadelphia, Pa.) kicked things off with an 11-3, 11-4, 11-6 victory from the first position while First Year John Gunton (Lawrenceville, N.J.) added a near clean sweep with an 11-0, 11-3, 11-1 win from the second position.
- Sophomore Mitav Nayak (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) came through from the fourth position for MIT with an 11-6, 11-3, 11-4 while sophomore Lars Barkman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) swept his BU counterpart 3-0 with an 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 win.
- Senior Yos Wagenmans (Seattle, Wash.) picked up another 3-0 victory from the sixth position with an 11-1, 11-6, 11-2 upending while sophomore Stephen Shin (Atlanta, Ga.) added a 3-0 (11-5, 11-2, 11-3) win from the eighth position and First Year JJ Detweiler (St. Thomas, USVI) rounded out the match with an 11-8, 11-2, 11-4 victory from the ninth slot for the clean sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Boston College:
- Yet again, the Engineers did not drop any games during the match, this time to the Eagles.
- Price led the way from the first position for the second-straight match this time with an 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 victory while senior Nikhil Kakarla (Philadelphia, Pa.) stepped up with an 11-1, 11-1, 11-7 victory from the second position.
- Sophomore Bobby Albani (Newtown Square, Pa.) filled the third position with an 11-8, 11-2, 11-8 win while Graduate Student Matt McManus (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned a 3-0 win from the fourth position with an 11-4, 11-1, 11-1 victory and Barkman picked up a clean 11-0, 11-2, 11-4 win from the fifth position.
- Wagenmans remained in the sixth position earning yet another victory this time in the form of an 11-0, 11-1, 11-3 win while Shin stepped up in the seventh position with an 11-2, 11-3, 11-1 win.
- Finally, First Year Andrew Ding (Cambridge, Mass.) took home a 3-0 sweep from the eighth spot with an 11-1, 11-1, 11-4 W and Detweiler once again rounded things out from the ninth spot with an 11-3, 11-1, 11-1 win.
