- The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Clash at Kean on Saturday. The Engineers defeated host Kean 3-1 behind 14 kills from
Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) and 48 assists from
Max Turner (Chandler, Ariz.). The Engineers also fell 3-0 to Ramapo despite
Ben Volokh (Studio City, Calif.) hitting .464 with a team-high 18 kills. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. KEAN:

Set 1: Senior
Troy Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) tallied four kills, including the final point of the match to end a four-point run by Kean that pulled the set to 24-23. Turner notched 10 assists in the set to pace the MIT offense.Â

Set 2: MIT had a .300 attacking percentage in the second set en-route to a 25-19 victory to take a 2-0 lead.
Grant Oh notched six kills in the set to lead the offense.Â

Set 3: Kean led the third set from the outset and then scored six straight points to build up an 11-5 lead that it would never look back from. Kean hit .348 to MIT's .078 in the third set to cruise the win.Â

Set 4: MIT regained its form in the third set with a match-best .419 hitting percentage to stamp the victory. The Engineers racked up 17 kills in the final set with a match-high 16 assists from Turner to pace the offense.Â

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- MIT held a .217 to .178 hitting percentage advantage, as well as a 50-44 kills advantage. The Engineers also led in service aces (4-3), assists (48-44) and digs (47-38). Kean led blocks 11-9.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. RAMAPO:

Set 1: Ramapo hit .444 in the opening set and jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Engineers were able to register a point. MIT came storming back to cut the deficit to 20-19. However, Ramapo scored five of the next six points to take the set. Volokh helped spur the near comeback with seven kills in the opening set.Â

Set 2: MIT led by as much as 16-11 at one point, as well as 23-22, however Ramapo scored the final three points of the middle set to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Ben Sheres (San Diego, Calif.) tallied five kills for MIT in the set.Â

Set 3: MIT once again led by as many as three points with an 11-8 lead midway through the set, however Ramapo outscored the Engineers 17-8 the rest of the way to take the set 25-19 and sweep the match.Â

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Ramapo outhit MIT .363 to .258 and had 29 digs to the Engineers' 21. The Roadrunners also held narrow leads in kills (42-39), service aces (2-1) and assists (39-36). MIT won the block battle at the net 5-3.Â
