No. 4 Women’s Cross Country Wraps-Up Weekend at Bates Invitational

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — Three members of the No. 4 ranked MIT women's cross country team competed on Saturday morning at the 6k Bates Invitational at Pineland Farms. The Engineers competing at Bates earned three times in the top 21 but did not record a team score.

THE BASICS: 

  • Top-Five Team Scores: 1. Bates (38); 2. Bowdoin (54); 3. Colby (72); 4. Brandeis (77); 5. U of New England (111) 
  • Top Finisher: Phoebe Pohl of Bates in 22:31.0 
  • Top MIT Finisher: Sophomore Jessica Meza (Columbus, Ind.) in 23:22.2 (9th) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Meza was the top MIT finisher over the line with a 6k PR of 23:22.2. The MIT sophomore was followed by graduate student Maya Florentine Walcher (Graz, Austria) in 16th with a time of 23:41.8 and first year Sarah Hopp (Stevens Point, Wis.) in 21 with a finishing time of 24:08.3.

  • The Engineers will race at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, October 19. The Varsity 8k will take place at 12:00 PM.
