Brandeis Defeats Men's Soccer, 4-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis scored three goals in the span of 10 minutes in the first half to take a 4-1 victory over the MIT men's soccer team on Tuesday night at Gordon Field.
 
THE BASICS
  • Score: Brandeis 4, MIT 1
  • Records: MIT (6-7-0 Overall), Brandeis (5-3-2 Overall)  
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Graduate student Aidan Hallinan (Carlsbad, Calif.) looked to give the Engineers a quick lead but his shot was saved by Quintin Wrabley (Malvern, Pa.) at 2:56. First year Shikhar Motupally (Avon, Conn.) followed with a shot that went wide left a few seconds later at 3:14.
  • The Judges put three goals on the board in just over 10 minutes. The first strike came at 20:43 from first year Dylan Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica). First year Kaden Collins (Farmington, Conn.) followed with a goal at 24:48 and junior Nico Beninda (Monroe Township, N.J.) gave the host a 3-0 advantage at 29:39.
  • Off a throw in by the Engineers, the ball found its way outside the box to Motupally who laced a shot into the far left corner at 50:10 to make it a two goal game.
  • Junior Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season at 62:46 to put Brandeis back up by three goals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • MIT held a slight 15-14 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Brandeis had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • The goal for Motupally was his fifth of the season. He now leads the team with 16 points.
  • Sophomore Hernando Ardila (Mimar, Fla.) turned away two shots.
  • Marzouca and Collins scored their first collegiate goals. Beninda notched his fourth goal of the year and Osselmann-Chai scored his second.
  • Wrabley made six saves in goal.
UP NEXT: 
  • The Engineers continue their road swing with a 1:00 PM NEWMAC contest at Springfield on Saturday, October 12.  The Judges will host Washington University on Friday, October 11 at 1:30 PM.
