Men's Volleyball Earns 3-0 Sweep Over SUNY New Paltz in UVC Action

- Score: MIT - 3, SUNY New Paltz - 0 (31-29, 25-19, 25-19)

- Records: MIT (9-5, 2-1 UVC), SUNY New Paltz (13-8, 0-1 UVC)

- The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team collected a UVC sweep on the road against SUNY New Paltz on Friday night at the Hawk Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Set 1: The Engineers and Hawks went back and forth, going beyond the extra mile to win the set as both teams went past 25 points. With MIT trailing by a point (29-28), a kill from sophomore Michael Rini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) gave the Engineers a spark to tie it up and score two more points to end the set in thrilling fashion (31-29).
 
- Set 2: With MIT leading at 18-14, the Engineers collected four straight points to push the lead out to 22-15 and eventually sealed the deal with a kill from senior Phillip Johnson (Chandler, Ariz.).

- Set 3: Both teams once again went back and forth until another 4-0 run by the Engineers lifted them to a victory over the Hawks, collecting the sweep, as a kill from Rini gave MIT the 25-19 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Johnson and Rini led the way for MIT with 12 kills. Junior Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) and graduate student Nick Gustafson (San Diego, Calif.) also contributed on the attack with eight and seven kills, respectively.
 
- Junior Riley Oh (Irvine, Calif.) collected 38 assists. Defensively, sophomore Kevin Windisch (Placentia, Calif.) led with 15 digs while Johnson blocked four shots at the net.

- MIT will stay in New York as they go up against Russell Sage College in a non-conference matchup tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
