The Lead: The No. 12 MIT women's tennis team dropped only three games in its 9-0 victory over NEWMAC foe Emerson College on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomores
Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Calif.) and
Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) picked up the first point of the day as they defeated
Sophie Oglensky and
Chase Stinson, 8-0, in the No. 2 doubles position. Junior
Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and senior
Kimberly Liao (Commack, N.Y.) quickly followed with an 8-1 win over
Susie-Jane Wilson and
Gabrielle McGovern in the top slot while first-years
Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) and
Saina Deshpande (Pune, India) also recorded an 8-1 victory as they bested
Evlin Walsh and
Kendi Bispham.
- The Engineers produced 6-0, 6-0 victories in the No. 2 and 6 slots as Liao defeated McGovern and first-year
Alicen Liu (Novi, Mich.) clinched the match for MIT by overpowering
Jayden Beverly. In the No. 5 position, first-year
Nishi Gandra (Mason, Ohio) notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Walsh while first-year
Katya Shepherd Johnson (Takoma Park, Md.) registered a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Oglensky in the top spot. Pados and Samets followed with 6-0, 6-0 scores versus Stinson and
Amaya Briones at No. 4 and 3 singles, respectively.

- MIT returns to action on Tuesday, March 26 when it travels to No. 27 Caltech for a match at 6:00 p.m. ET. Emerson, meanwhile, continues NEWMAC play on Saturday, March 30 when it hosts Mount Holyoke College at 11:00 a.m.
