HANOVER, N.H. — The No. 12 ranked MIT men's cross country team defeated Division I Dartmouth in a dual at the 8k Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational on Saturday. The Engineers finished with 18 points while the host Big Green totaled 40.
THE BASICS:

- Top-Finisher: MIT's Renne Cooper (Austin, Texas) in 25:43.30
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Cooper's collegiate debut was an impressive one, as he led a 1-2-3 MIT finish with a time of 25:43.30 in his first appearance for MIT.
- Senior Sam Coutts (Pacific Grove, Calif.) was second for MIT in 25:46.90, while junior Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) took third in 25:48.70.
- Sophomore Yichen Sun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and junior Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) were the final two scoring runners for MIT. Sun was fifth in 25:54.60 and Hassan was seventh in 25:59.00. Hassan finished just ahead of Owen Sondag (Fargo, N.D.). Sondag was eighth (26:04.60) in his collegiate debut for MIT.
- Sophomore Jaxon Miller (Goshen, Ind.) was seventh for MIT and 15th overall in 26:28.10. First year Luke Rupert (Hill City, S.D.) finished one spot back of Miller with a time of 26:31.40.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Twenty-four runners competed for MIT on Saturday (complete results).
- MIT captured the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational for the first time after finishing second to Dartmouth in both 2022 and 2023.
- Cobb finished in the top-five for the second time at the event (4th in 2023).

MIT will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana for the DIII Pre-National Meet, hosted by Rose Hulman on Friday, October 4. The Engineers will also compete at the Bates Invitational on Saturday, October 5.
