Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Wentworth Tops Men's Soccer, 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. –  The MIT men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 non-conference road game to the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday night.
 
After 65 minutes of scoreless play, senior Christopher Jimenez (Doral, Fla.) scored his second goal of the season to give the Leopards their third win of the year.
 
THE BASICS
  • Score: Wentworth Institute of Technology 1, MIT 0
  • Records: MIT (4-3-0 Overall), Wentworth (3-2-2 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Engineers controlled the first 45 minutes of play, out-shooting WIT 11-3. First years Jonah Gurion (Rye, N.Y) and Canon Robins (Virginia Beach, Va.) had chances to score late in the half. Gurion had his shot blocked and Robins' attempt was saved by Adrian Sanchez (Chorrear, Panama).
  • After a shot by Robins went wide, the Leopards went down the length of the field as first year Michael Liquori (Westfield, Mass.) sent a pass to Jimenez who tucked the ball into the left post at 66:58.
  • First year Shikhar Motupally (Avon, Conn.) looked to tie the match late in the game, however, his shot went wide.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • MIT held the advantage in shots (18-6) and shots on goal (5-3). Wentworth had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Sophomore Paolo Mangiafico (Farmington, Conn.) made two saves and saw his record move to 2-2.
  • Sanchez made career-best five saves to improve to 2-0.
  • The goal for Jimenez was the eighth of his career and his second game-winning score.
UP NEXT: 
  • The Engineers open up NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 21 when they welcome Coast Guard to Roberts Field for a 4:00 PM contest.
