Men's Soccer Earns 3-0 Win Over Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team concluded its season with a 3-0 victory over Emerson on the road on Saturday afternoon on Rotch Field.

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 3, Emerson 0 
  • Records: MIT (3-10-4 Overall, 2-5-1 NEWMAC), Emerson (6-7-5, 3-4-1 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Neither team got much going offensively in the first 45 minutes of action. The Lions saw all three of their shots saved by Paolo Mangiafico while Asa Roberts turned away the lone MIT shot on goal by Adam Cohen
  • Shikhar Motupally got MIT on the board at 47:10. Ethan Reich then made it a 2-0 game with his goal at 59:52. 
  • Nicolas Stone Perez converted on a PK to seal the 3-0 win for MIT. 
  • Emerson had multiple scoring chances in the second half, but Mangiafico made seven second half saves to secure the shutout.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Motupally scored his fifth goal of the season. 
  • Reich and Stone Perez both scored their first collegiate goals. 
  • Mangiafico tied his career high with nine saves and saw his record improve to 4-7-2.
