MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Head Coach Riley Macon and the MIT women's cross country coaching staff have been named the 2025 NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year after helping MIT capture its 18th consecutive NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Championship last Saturday.
Macon as well as MIT Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Julie Heyde and assistant coaches Whitney Macon, Ziyad Hassan '25, Christina Crow '25 and Ned Farrington earned the honor following a vote of the NEWMAC coaches. This year is the second straight season that Macon and the MIT coaching staff have been named NEWMAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.
The No. 2 nationally ranked Engineers had five of the top seven and seven of the top ten finishers in the field, paced by overall runner-up Kate Sanderson in 21:38.2). MIT has won 18th straight and 20th overall NEWMAC Championships Following the race, MIT grad student Gillian Roeder, an All-Conference honoree, was also announced as the inaugural recipient of the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Laurels of Academic Excellence, presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the NEWMAC Championship.
