Montgomery Downs 600m Program Record as Women's Track and Field Competes at BU Colyear-Danville Season Opener

BOSTON, Mass. — Krystal Montgomery set an MIT program record in the 600m as the women's track and field team opened the indoor season on Saturday at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. Along with a new program standard, Montgomery's time is now sixth all-time in Division III history in the 600m.

THE BASICS:

  • No Team Score

TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events: 
  • 60m Hurdles: Jadyn Grant was fourth in 9.70 in her collegiate debut.
  • 600m: Montgomery was second in her heat and seventh overall with her school record time of 1:33.40.  
  • 300m: Madeline Hon and Nandini Warrier finished 26th and 31st, respectively. Hon had a personal record time of 42.73 and Warrier was 31st in 43.50 in her collegiate debut.
  • 60m: Shannon Cordle was seventh in 8.57 seconds. 
  • 3000m: Lexi Fernandez finished 61st overall in the 3k with a time of 9:53.74.
  • 5000m: Kate Sanderson placed 127th with a time of 16:47.54, followed by Rujuta Sane in 134th place (16:53.59), and Liv Girand in 145th place (16:58.40).

TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events: 

  • High Jump: Katie Kempff took second, clearing 1.63m (5' 4 ¼"). Kempff passed on the first three heights before clearing her next three. Paige Dzenutis was fifth, clearing a new PR of 1.58m (5' 2 ¼").
  • Pole Vault: Hailey Surace, Elise Doyle and Tessa Baker finished 1-2-3 for the Engineers. Surace was the only competitor to clear 3.65m and 3.78m to win.
  • Weight Throw: Macy Brennan and Lilia Ould-Hammou finished 1-2 for MIT. Brennan's winning throw was a PR of 15.29m (50'2") and Ould-Hammou's mark was 14.83m (48'8").

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Montgomery's previous top time in the 600m was 1:39.64.
  • Fernandez was one of only two DIII runners in her heat in the 3000m, finishing sixth of 20.
  • Surace took aim at 3.85m after clearing 3.78m to win the pole vault but she did not make the height after securing the victory.
  • Both Brennan and Ould-Hammou had their best attempt on their fifth throw in the Weight Throw.

NEXT UP: 

  • MIT will host its annual Alumni Meet on December 13 before the Engineers break from the end of the semester.
  • MIT's first meet in 2026 is the Beantown Challenge at Harvard on Saturday, January 17.
