No. 12 Women’s Tennis Notches 7-0 Win Over Hamilton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 12 MIT defeated Hamilton College, 7-0, in a non-conference women's tennis match on Saturday in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble.
 
THE BASICS:
  • Score: No. 12 MIT 7, Hamilton 0
  • Records: No. 12 MIT (5-2 Overall); Hamilton (2-3 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED - DOUBLES:
  • Sophomores Saina Deshpande (Pune, India) and Anastasia Samets (Ocean, N.J.) cruised to a 6-0 victory over first-year Muhan Cui (Auckland, New Zealand) and senior Shannon Cicero (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) in the No. 3 doubles spot.
  • Senior Jay Lu (Austin, Texas) and first-year Chloe Zeng (Austin, Texas) clinched the doubles point as they blanked sophomore Priyanka Challapalli (Helotes, Texas) and junior Hannah Walpole (Tauranga, New Zealand), 6-0, in the No. 2 position.
  • In the top slot, seniors Hannah Apsey (Allendale, N.J.) and Stephanie Pratt (Beverly, Mass.) defeated juniors Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Fla.), 6-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED - SINGLES:
  • Samets cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Walpole in the No. 4 position.
  • Deshpande won the first five games en route to a 6-1 decision in the first set versus Challapalli in the No. 3 spot. In the second set, Deshpande built a 4-1 lead as she held on for a 6-4 victory.
  • Lu won 12 consecutive games as she recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Pratt, clinching the match from the No. 2 slot.
  • Zeng posted a 6-3, 6-3 win against Apsey in the top spot.
  • First-year Megan Sun (Newbury Park, Calif.) turned a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 victory over Cui in the first set of their No. 5 singles match. Sun won the first three games before going on to secure a 6-1 decision in the second set.
  • In the No. 6 position, sophomore Alicen Liu (Novi, Mich.)  produced a 6-1 victory in the first set against Cicero. Cicero built a 4-1 advantage in the second set, however, Liu battled back to even the frame at 5-5. Cicero responded by winning the next two games. After conceding the first point in the super tiebreaker for the third set, Liu captured the next six as she generated a final score of 10-3.
