Softball Drops 7-3 NCAA Regional Semifinal Game to Ramapo

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - A seven-run first inning helped lead Ramapo to the NCAA Division III Regional Championship as the Roadrunners held on to defeat the MIT softball team by a 7-3 score on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

THE BASICS:

  • Score: Ramapo 7, MIT 3
  • Records: MIT (29-12 Overall), Ramapo (33-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Roadrunners raced out to a 7-0 lead after one and never looked back. Ramapo worked four bases loaded walks and got RBI singles from Rebecca Airel (Edison, N.J.) and Katie Rygiel (Hillsborough, N.J.).
  • Adkison recorded a two-out single up the middle and came around to score on a single from first-year Maggie Feng (Brookfield, Wis.) in the second.
  • First-year Delaney Benevides (Plainville, Mass.) led off the third with a bunt single to third and with two outs, junior Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) hit 1-2 pitch over the wall to cut the Ramapo lead to 7-3.
  • MIT got runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings but could not get a run across.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Adkison collected two more hits to finish her career with the second most hits in program history with 202 as well as the second most runs scored with 123. She also finished the season without striking out, one of just six players in Division III to achieve that feat this season.

  • Ladd went 1-2 with two RBI to end the season with four homers and a team-high 38 RBI.
