CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The MIT women's track and field team earned seven top ten finishes, including four in the pole vault, as the Engineers competed on Saturday at the Beantown Challenge at Harvard's Gordon Track.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 60m: Shreya Kalyan was 21st in 7.89 seconds, registering an automatic qualifying mark for the NED3 Championships. JoJo Miller added a 33rd place finish in 8.19 as MIT had seven competitors in total in the 60m.
- 300m: Kalyan and JoJo Miller were also MIT's top finishers in the 300m. Kalyan was 19th in 41.56 and Miller was 37th in 44.19.
- 1000m: Krystal Montgomery set a PR with a tenth-place finish in 2:57.84. Jessica Meza was 20th in 3:02.54 as both automatically qualified for the NED3 Championships.
- Mile: Sophie Cheung was tops among three MIT runners in the mile, establishing a PR in 5:24.31 to finish 24th. Sarah Hopp took 27th in 5:27.10.
- 60mH: Jadyn Grant and Rachel Chen took 21st and 23rd, respectively. Grant had a time of 9.62 seconds.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Amalia Toutziaridi registered an automatic NED3 qualifying mark by clearing 1.60m (5'3") on her second attempt at the height.
- Pole Vault: MIT dominated the pole vault as Katelyn Howard, Hailey Surace, Tessa Baker and Elise Doyle all cleared 3.65m to finish in the top ten. Howard and Surace tied for fifth, while Baker and Doyle tied for seventh.
- Long Jump: Katie Kempff and Lauren Chi finished 13th and 14th as MIT had five competitors in the long jump. Kempff and Chi each cleared 5.07m (16"7.75").
- Triple Jump: Nony Otu Ugwu was seventh with a jump of 11.26m to register and NED3 automatic qualifying mark.
- Shot Put: Lily Siegelman, Lilia Ould-Hammou and Olivia Carpenter finished 18th, 19th, and 21st, respectively with Siegelman leading the group with a toss of 10.55m.
- Weight Throw: Ould-Hammou and Macy Brennan each hit automatic NED3 marks in the weight throw. Ould-Hammou was tenth with a mark of 15.15m (49' 8.5") and Brennan was 12th with a mark of 14.75m (48' 4.75").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Toutziaridi is now 27th nationally in the high jump, joining Kempff in the top 30. Kempff is ninth thanks to her mark at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
- MIT's pole vault squad now holds four of the top 12 marks in the country through the first two competitions on the season.
- Montgomery is locked in to open the season, setting PRs in the 600m and 1000m in each of her first two appearances this year.
